1. Indian Air Force offers opportunities for unmarried male Indian citizens from the
designated districts of State of Kerala, Mahe (UT of Puducherry) and UT of
Lakshadweep to become an airman. The Recruitment Test for Group „Y‟ (Non-Technical)
Trades:{Except Auto Technician, Ground Training Instructor, Indian Air Force (Police)
and Musician} will be held at SDV Centenary Auditorium, Allapuzha (Kerala) from 20
August 2011 to 25 August 2011 as per the Selection Programme given below.
2. SELECTION PROGRAMME. The Recruitment Test will be conducted from 7 AM
onwards every day as per the details given below. Candidates reporting up to 10 AM at the
Rally Venue will only be permitted to appear in the Recruitment Test.
Note: - The Recruitment Test is not for selection as Officers/Pilots/Navigators.

3. AGE LIMIT. Candidate should be born between 01 July 1990 and 30 September
1994 (both days inclusive).
4. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
For Group „Y‟ (Non-Technical) Trades {Except Auto Tech, GTI, IAF (P) and
Musician}. Passed Intermediate or 10+2 or equivalent examination with Science,
Arts or Commerce subjects or equivalent vocational courses with minimum 50%
marks in aggregate. Vocational course should be recognized by Association of
Indian Universities.
OR
03 years Diploma in any stream of Engineering from a Government recognised
Polytechnic/Institute.
Note: - Exact aggregate percentage of marks up to first place of decimal for all
subjects as mentioned in the Marks Sheet of Intermediate or 10+2 or equivalent will
only be considered (For example, 49.9% should NOT be rounded off to 50%).
5. DOMICILE REQUIREMENT. (a) To be eligible to appear in the rally at SDV
Centenary Auditorium, Allapuzha (Kerala) the candidates must have passed the
qualifying examination from the recognized Boards from designated districts (as
per Para 2) from the State of Kerala, UT of Lakshadweep and Mahe (UT of
Puducherry). OR should fulfill the domicile requirements as applicable to the State
of Kerala (Domicile Certificate issued by Village Officers, Tehsildar & District
Collectors); UT of Lakshadweep {(Domicile Certificate issued by Executive
Magistrate, Secretary to the Administrator & ADM (Kavaratti), SDO, Executive Officer
& Deputy Collector (Kalpeni), Deputy Collector (Minicoy)}; and Mahe (UT of
Puducherry)(Domicile Certificate issued by Dy Tehsildar & Dy Collector /
Administrator). Domicile Certificates could also be signed by any other official
authorized by the Government of State of Kerala, UT of Lakshadweep and Mahe (UT
of Puducherry). If in XII passing certificate, name of the district is not mentioned,
candidate has to bring the original Domicile Certificate.
(b) Sons of Serving/Retired/Discharged/ Deceased Air Force Personnel, irrespective
of their domicile status may be permitted to appear in the rally subject to submission of
Son of Air Force Personnel Certificate as a proof in the following categories: - (i)
Father/Mother is presently serving in any Air Force Unit located in the specified Districts of the State of Kerala, UT of Lakshadweep and Mahe (UT of
Puducherry) (ii) Ex-IAF personnel/families of deceased personnel who are residing
in the specified Districts of the State of Kerala, UT of Lakshadweep and Mahe
(UT of Puducherry) (on production of proof of minimum stay of one year). (iii)
Original and one photostat copy of discharge book.
6. MEDICAL STANDARDS :-
(a) General Medical Standards for Group „Y‟ {Except Auto Tech, GTI, IAF (P) &
Musician} trades are as follows: -
(i) Height: Minimum acceptable height is 152.5 cms.
(ii) Chest: Minimum range of expansion: 5 cm
(iii) Weight: Proportionate to height and age.
(iv) Vision: Minimum Visual Standard: Unaided 6/36 and correctable to
at least 6/9 for each eye with spectacles, Dioptectric power not exceeding + 3.5
Dioptres in any axis. Full field of vision and Defective safe colour vision CP-II/III.
(Candidate should bring latest prescription and spectacles for corrected
vision, if used. The prescription must bear the signature, stamp and
registration number of eye specialist.).
(v) Corneal Surgery (PRK/LASIK) not acceptable.
(vi) Hearing: Candidate should have normal hearing i.e. able to hear
forced whisper from a distance of 6 meters with each ear separately.
(vii) Dental: Should have healthy gums, good set of teeth and minimum
14 dental points.
(viii) Health: Candidate should be free from medical or surgical
deformity. He should be free from all communicable diseases and skin ailments.
Candidate must be physically and mentally FIT to perform duty in any part of
the world, in any climate and terrain.
7. Candidate discharged from the Armed Forces on any ground or dismissed from
any Government Organisation for any reason earlier are NOT eligible to appear in the
rally.
8. WRITING MATERIALS AND DOCUMENTS REQUIRED. Candidates are to bring the
following:-
(a) HB Pencil, Eraser, Sharpener and Black/Blue Ball Point Pen for writing. (b)
Seven copies of recent front portrait (without headgear except for Sikh) passportsize (5 cm X 4 cm) colour photograph taken on or after 20 May 2011.
Photographs should be on good quality “photo paper”. (c) Two unstamped selfaddressed 24x10 cm white envelopes of good quality. (d) Original and three
photostat copies of each of all educational certificates and mark sheets and
domicile as well as NCC certificates (if applicable) (g) Consent Form: (as per the
format given below) Candidates are to bring the “Consent Form’ to the Examination
Venue and submit it before the Physical Fitness Test. Candidate below 18 years of
age are to get the Consent form filled and signed by their parent/guardian. The
candidates of 18 years of age and above can sign the consent form themselves.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
9. TENURE & TRAINING. Enrolment is for an initial period of 20 years extendable up
to the age of 57 years. Initially candidates will be sent for a Joint Basic Phase Training
(JBPT) for 12 weeks at Basic Training Institute, Belgaum (Karnataka). On successful
completion of JBPT candidates will be sent for trade training of specified durations. Training
is however liable to be terminated at any time if the trainee fails to achieve the required
standards in academics, profession, physical fitness and discipline or is found to be
medically unfit. After successful completion of training, the airmen will be deployed
on ground based jobs as per their allotted trades.
10. PAY & ALLOWANCES. During training, a stipend of Rs. 8,550/-pm will be paid.
On completion of training, starting gross emoluments at the minimum of scale of pay
including Dearness Allowance (DA), for Group „Y‟ (Non-Technical) Trades {Except
Auto Tech, GTI, IAF (P) and Musician} will be Rs. 16,213/-pm (approximately) which, in
subsequent years, may rise up to Rs. 31,233/-pm as per sixth pay commission depending
upon the rank attained. Other allowances such as Transport allowance, Composite personal maintenance allowance (CPMA), Leave Ration allowance (LRA), PJI allowance,
Family planning allowance, HRA etc are also admissible to airmen.
11. PERQUISITES. Perks such as Ration, Clothing, Medical facilities,
Accommodation, CSD Canteen facilities, Education concession to children,
Recreational facilities, Free transport for school going children and Leave Travel
Concession (LTC) are also provided as per the existing rules. Notwithstanding the above,
Group Insurance Cover of Rs. 25, 00,000/- at a premium of Rs. 1,730/- per month, is
covered for all airmen and facility of Group Housing Scheme is also extended. Other
facilities by Air Force Wives Welfare Association (AFWWA) are also extended to the
family of airmen.
12. POST-RETIREMENT BENEFITS. Pension, Ex-Servicemen Contributory
Health Scheme, Gratuity and Canteen facilities comprise some of the post-retirement
benefits. Specialized Pre-release Courses are also arranged to enable airmen to take
up post-retirement careers. In addition, airmen also get relaxation in age and reservation
in Government services as Ex-servicemen.
13. PROMOTION. Promotion prospects exist up to the rank of Master Warrant Officer
(MWO). Opportunities to become a Commissioned Officer also exist for those airmen who
qualify the prescribed examinations, later during their service career.
14. JOB SPECIFICATION
(a) Group „Y‟ (Non-Technical) Trades {Except Auto Tech, GTI, IAF (P) & Musician}
involve jobs like:
(i) Admin Assistant. As an Admin Assistant you will maintain and
analyse records, files, information of personnel. You will also manage ration
supplies, Cook Houses and Messes.
(ii) Accounts Assistant. As an Accounts Assistant you will record
and manage accounting of pay and allowances, equipment, logistics
transactions, public fund and cash flow etc.
(iii) Medical Assistant. Operating as a Medical Assistant, you are made
familiar with nursing and first aid. You are also involved in management of
Medical Stores, Dispensaries and ward supervision.
(iv) Logistics Assistant. As a Logistic Assistant, you are involved in
the procurement, storage, handling inventory control and accounting of Military
Stores.(v) Environment Support Services Assistant (ESSA). This job involves
maintenance of the fire fighting section. It also requires that you ensure the
upkeep of hygiene of Air Force Camps.
(vi) Ops Assistant. As an Ops Assistant, you will operate various
systems of Air Traffic Control Centre, Air Field and Air Defence System. You
will be trained in operation of Radars, Display Units, reporting and tracking
procedures of Airborne Weapon Systems etc.
(vii) Communication Technician. As a Communication Technician you
will operate, service and maintain all types of state of art communication
devices, telephone exchange and radio transmission equipment.
(viii) Meteorological Assistant. You are trained to undertake weather
observation and maintenance of meteorological instruments. You are also
responsible for plotting of charts, taking balloon observations and compilation
of weather summaries.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
15. VERIFICATION OF ELIGIBILITY. Original Certificates/Mark Sheets and other
required documents will be scrutinized and verified at the examination venue on the days of
written tests before the commencement of the written test.
SEQUENCE OF EXAMINATION
16. WRITTEN TEST. Written test will be objective type and question paper will be
bilingual (English & Hindi) except English Paper. Duration of written test will be 45 minutes
for Group „Y‟ {Except Auto Tech, GTI, IAF (P) and Musician} trades. Written test will be
conducted in the following subjects:-
For Group „Y‟(Non-Technical) Trades : English as per CBSE syllabus of
{Except Auto Tech, GTI, IAF (P) and AISSCE and Reasoning & General
Musician}. Awareness (RAGA).
CANDIDATES ARE TO QUALIFY IN EACH PAPER SEPARATELY. Results of the
written test will be declared on the same day.
17. PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST (PFT). All candidates who pass the written test are to
undergo Physical Fitness Test (PFT) on the same or the next day. PFT consists of a 1.6
Km run to be completed within 8 minutes. Candidates completing the PFT in less than 7
minutes 30 seconds will be awarded additional marks on a sliding scale. Candidates are
advised to bring their sports shoes and shorts.
18. INTERVIEW. Candidates who have passed the written test and PFT will be
interviewed. Working knowledge of English is a prerequisite.19. MEDICAL EXAMINATION. Medical examination will be conducted as per IAF medical
standards for recruitment as airmen by medical officers of the Armed Forces. Candidates
declared Medically Unfit can avail the option for Appeal Medical Board (AMB) against their
Unfitness by depositing Rs. 40/- in a Government Treasury/RBI/SBI through Military Receivable
Order (MRO). The application for AMB along with original copy of MRO, Xerox copy of
Unfitness Certificate and Postal Stamp worth Rs. 25/- affixed on a self-addressed envelope are
to be submitted to 14 Airmen Selection Centre, VII/302-B, Vayu Sena Road, Kakkanad, Kochi
(Kerala) for processing within seven working days from the date of issue of Medical Certificate.
20. PUBLISHING OF AISL The All India Select List (AISL) will be displayed at
No. 14 Airmen Selection Centre, VII/302-B, Vayu Sena Road, Kakkanad, Kochi (Kerala)
on 31 Oct 2011. A copy of the Display List will be sent to District Magistrate of Allapuzha
(Kerala) (through Airmen Selection Centre) and also available at Indian Air Force website
www.indianairforce.nic.in. The inclusion of names of the candidates in the AISL depends
upon the performance of the candidates in the Selection Test.
NOTE: - Candidates are advised to get tartar & stains removed from their teeth before
appearing for the written test. Ears should be free of wax. Candidates should be
prepared to stay for the test for four to five days under their own arrangement. No
